Support our Crew

Your donation helps keep us afloat — literally and figuratively. With your support, girls gain hands-on boating experience, develop leadership skills, and build lifelong confidence through sailing, teamwork, and service. Help us continue a proud tradition that’s been empowering young women since 1954. Every gift makes a difference!

Fundraisers

Annual Girl Scout Cookie Season

Every year we participate in the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program as one of our main fundraisers. Cookie season is a fun and important time for us — not only do we build skills in goal-setting, communication, and teamwork, but the money we earn helps fund boat maintenance, sailing trips, and leadership activities. When you buy cookies from us, you’re not just getting a sweet treat — you’re supporting young women learning to lead on land and at sea. Look for us during cookie season and help keep us sailing strong!

Annual Tree Lot

Every holiday season, the crew of the MSS Tradewind joins forces with our fellow Sea Scout ships to work at a local Christmas tree lot — a fun and festive fundraiser we look forward to each year. It’s a great way for us to raise money to support our sailing adventures, boat maintenance, and leadership activities, all while working together as part of the greater scouting community.

How Funds are Used

Boat Maintenance

The Tradewind proudly upholds one of our most valued traditions: caring for and maintaining our vessel with our own hands. From sanding and painting to scrubbing decks and polishing brass, our Mariners learn the value of hard work, attention to detail, and teamwork through ongoing maintenance projects. These hands-on experiences not only keep us in top shape, but also build real-world skills and confidence. Your contributions help us buy the tools, materials, and supplies we need

Safety Equipment

The Tradewind crew takes pride in keeping everyone safe on the water, and fundraising and donations play an essential role in that mission. Through the support of our community, we are able to provide and maintain critical safety equipment such as life jackets, radios, first-aid kits, and navigation tools. These resources allow our Mariners to train, sail, and explore with confidence while learning responsibility, preparedness, and teamwork. Your support helps us purchase, maintain, and replace the safety gear that makes every Tradewind adventure possible.

Activites

Your support makes it possible for members to participate in year-round activities that build confidence, leadership, and real-world maritime skills, including invaluable learning events with the Coast Guard like Safety at Sea training. It helps fund regattas where teamwork and sportsmanship come alive, as well as a wide range of exciting nautical adventures that inspire a lifelong love of seamanship. Every contribution directly empowers young mariners to grow, explore, and achieve more than they ever thought possible. With your generosity, the wind stays in our sails, and opportunity stays within reach for every member of the MSS Tradewind crew.

Projects like this are only possible because of the donations we receive. If you’d like to help us continue offering these unique, skill-building opportunities, please consider supporting our crew. Every contribution keeps the Tradewind moving forward!
